UW-Madison Students Commemorate Life of Charlie Kirk
A group of students gathered on the evening of September 10 to commemorate the life of Charlie Kirk, who had been assassinated exactly one year earlier. While the vigil on Library Mall was a somber occasion, student messages on YikYak were a different story. The anonymous messaging app, which requires a wisc.edu email address to register, was the site of numerous posts joking about the “Kirkaversary.”
This UW-Madison Program Strives to Bridge Political Divides
The Deliberation Dinners program engages undergraduate students at UW-Madison in discussion about controversial political issues throughout the school year. Over the course of six dinners, one each month from October to March, students have a chance to expand their knowledge of politics and discussion skills, especially with people with whom they may disagree.
UW-Madison Medical School Admissions Data Show Racial Disparities
Black and Hispanic applicants faced better odds of being admitted to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the 2025 admission cycle than did White or Asian applicants with the same MCAT score and GPA, according to the university’s own data. Among applicants with the same admission test scores and grade point averages, a Hispanic or Black applicant had nearly 4 times the odds of admission of an Asian applicant.
UW-Madison Sponsored a Drag Show for Welcome Week
The Wisconsin Welcome is an annual celebration for new students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It usually consists of events such as the Sunburst Festival, the Bakke Block Party, and the W Project. This year, it included a “Drag Brunch Bingo” hosted by the Office of Student Transition and Family Engagement and the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center.
UW-Madison Ranks Near Middle for Faculty Viewpoint Diversity in FIRE Study
A study released by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) in May found that faculty donors at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and other top universities are highly concentrated on the political left.
