Rep. Tiffany’s Bill to Limit H1B Visas in Higher Ed Puts Wisconsin First
OPINION - This summer, Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) introduced the Colleges for the American People Act, designed to eliminate exemptions and loopholes surrounding H1B visa employment caps in higher education. The CAP Act would require all universities to compete for H1B visas under the standard federal limit. Tiffany’s view provides a realistic alternative for the UW System’s future, creating a unique pipeline of education, trade, and research that will help Wisconsinites prosper.
As Antisemitism Rises, New Campaign Confronts Hate On Campus
OPINION - To address the resurgence of nationwide antisemitism, the organization JewBelong has taken to the streets of college campuses- including the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Launching the week of August 28th, large pink billboards with messages such as “Jewish students don’t need your pity. Just your spine,” and “Being Jewish shouldn’t require campus security” were installed in efforts to bring attention to the growing hostility facing Jewish students.
UW-Madison Community Responds to Murder of Charlie Kirk
“What happened to Charlie Kirk was a tragedy. It was wrong,” Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin said during a panel at the Reagan Institute. “Nobody should ever experience violence because of their beliefs and their words. The fact that it happened on a college campus is even a step worse — because … college campuses should be one of the places within society where ideas are explored and bump up against each other.”
State and Federal Leaders Denounce UW Course’s ‘First Day Reflection’
An assignment given in a UW journalism course that asked students to identify whether any of their “identities” are “privileged” has drawn criticism from state and federal politicians. Assembly Majority Leader Tyler August said, “Whoever is teaching this class should be fired immediately. No student should be subjected to this kind of bullshit.”
Stacey Abrams Discusses Elections, Authoritarianism at UW-Madison
Stacey Abrams, who notably refused to concede in her 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election defeat, spoke at length about election-related issues. She said, “The moment we are in right now, I don’t know that we will have elections that are worth the paper they are written on in 2026.”
